Week 18: Update

Hello!

Here is the update from Elder Myler from 1/27/13!

To Mom:
Hey mom it  is good to hear from you and i appreciate the update. I live in a small apartment with my companion and no one else. the apartment is pretty small but for two elders it no big deal. my companion and i walk just about everywhere we go during a normal day. We will only take transportation when we half to  travel outside our area ( which is usually just to the stake center for district mettings or activities) and we usually take a taxi or the bus. but in this area people also have what are called trecemotos it is bascically a moter cycle with a little trailer attached for pasangers. the rain is usually in the morning and the nights so it isnt all that bad. but it has rained fairly hard in the afternoon once or twice. but i alway have my umbrella wiht me so i manage just fine. My shoes are doing ok, i dont think they will last the whole mission but   i will use them for as long as possible before i buy a new pair.  and besides that not much has changed, i may be in a different area but i am still in Guayaquil so things are still kind of similar. I have also finished my in feild training and i think my next companinon  will be a new missonary that i will train. it is exciting and scary because my spanish is still not all that good. thats not to say i  am not progressing with the language its just i still dont full understand everything that is spoken to me. But i have faith that i will be just fine. iam  also sorry to say that i havent gotten any of the packages you guys have sent.  but i will be paitent!
LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU time is going by very fast it will truly be mothers day in no time
CON AMOR POR ME AMADO MAMA  ELder Myler

To Dad:
thanks a ton for the line of athourit y dad! i will be sure to use this whenever i teach about the priesthood. Sorry to hear about the marathon Im sure you will have plenty of opportunities in teh future to run a marathon. This past week was a very good one for me. i am getting use to my new area and my spanish is getting better, i finished my in feild training and am no longer a ¨new misonary¨ it is amazing the things i have learned  in these past four months.  time is truly flying by for me and  it get easier to enjoy the mission every day. It still isnt easy but it gets just a bit easier as the days and weeks fly by. before you know it  i willl have 6 months in the mission and will be a quarter of the way done with the mission. As life here gets easier it has been harder to think about life back at home, i get a little home sick now and them but  my  solution to this is just to work harder!  I love you dad and miss  you

Week 17: Update with NYE Pictures!

To Mom:
Thank you for the email mom! I am sorry you are feeling a little under the weather. I havent gotten seriously sick, but i have defidently had times when i have had stomac problems. I dont think i will ever completly adapt to the food and water here so it will probably be an issue through out the misson I pray fo r my health everyday here. haha thats life i guess thing here are more or less the same as well, we have a lot of less active people we contact here in this ward but besides that not much is new. One thing that did happen this week was the lock to our apartment door got stuck and me and my companion were stuck outside our apartment for about half an hour. We said a little prayer for the door and used our key and a rock to force the lock open. I know my prayers are answered wether it is for my health, sucess in the mission or for an apartment door. I turn to the Lord and Christ for all of my problems here and have learned to rely on them for all aspects of my life. I know God can do the same for you Mom. He loves you just as much as i do and just like me he want to hear from you more often.
Send my Love to everyone in the family ( espeally jetter!)

1. this first picture is of a family preparing their figures to be lit on fire ( you can see Bart Simson in the middle of the picture that figure is probably about the size of a regular adult )

2. this picture is kind of a close up of what one of these figures looks like on fire just imagine this times 100! ( you can still see bart, but the man to the right of bart is about to light him on fire!)

3. this was when things were a little crazy all of those lights you see down this street are fires! (you can see a man next to the fire in the center of the picture pouring gas onto the fire)
Hey just wanted to share some pictures from my new year´s eve in Guayaquil! Love you all and wish you a happy new year. New year´s eve is a little different here one of the more exciting traditions is everyone buys these huge paper mache figures and at midnight they light them on fire and throw fireworks into the fire. My apartment has a paito on the roof and so i was able to see all the fires and festivites around my block. It truly is crazy at midnight with all the fires and fireworks.

I will update this more once we get all of our emails from Elder Myler! This is what he has sent so far.

Week 16: Update

Hello!

Thanks for stopping by to read Elder Myler's blog. Here are the emails from 1/13/14. We found out he is in a new area with a new companion!

To Mom:
Tuesday.  I was also slammed with work

I'm not completely sure but I think my mom accidently forgot to email Davin this week.

To Dad:
It is good to hear from you Dad and i am sorry to hear about the premotion trouble. I have learned a lot about paitence here in Ecuador and still have a lot more to learn. My new area is great and there are a lot of differnences here in Colmena. I am still in Guayaquil but here it feels like a diffrent place completely! My last sector was very urban with lots of tall buildings, but now in my new sector it is suberban with less buildings and more small houses. I will keep you updated on everything as i continue to adapt to my new surroundings

That all for this week. Thanks for stopping by!

Week 14: Chirstmas/New Year 2014 Pictures!

Hola!

A new year is here! That means Elder Myler comes home NEXT year. That is kind of fun to say. :) These are the last emails of 2013. Elder Myler sent these on 12/31/13.

To Mom:
Hello MOM FELIZ navidad y nuevo ano! it was so nice to see and talk with you and dad and i am sure you enjoyed it as well! after talking with you and dad i had a huge desire to work hard and i think talking with you helped with some of the home sickness that came with being away during the holiday season. this week has been similar to last week with the new year. lots of celabrating in the streets witth fireworks and parties. in ecuador everyone makes these huge paper mache figures for the new year and at midnight they light them on fire and set off lots of fireworks. i will try and get some cool pictures of this but they will only be from the roof of our aparment. this new year is gonna be a big one for me and i know i will be working hard And i know that time will fly by and it will be 2015 in no time! Serving a mission has been one of the hardest but best dessision i have made in my life and i hope my mission will have an impact on you guys too!  Only 21 months left, i love you so much and my mission has strenghened my love for you and everyone in our family.
Con Amor Elder Myler

To Dad:
Hey dad, it was so good to see you and mom! i wish marcus could have been there but there is always next time! this holiday season has been different but good for me! being away from family has helped me turn to Jesus and God for support i nomally received from family. I has a wonderful Christmas and am excited for the new year. I was planning on getting a calander but have decided not to, i  think it will be easier to loose myself in the Lord´s service if i dont count down the days, This new year is the year God has given me to Serve Jesus Christ and bring Zion to Ecuador, i will spend every day of 2014 in ecuador on the Lord´s arrand. Time flys when i work hard so i invite you to work hard too and make this year a good but slightly faster year :) I love you so much dad and i know this love and so much more will grow in 2014
Con Anor Elder Myler

To Myler Grandparents (Fred & Brenda):

Week 12: Update with Pictures

Hello!

Sorry this is a bit late. These are the emails Elder Myler sent 12/16/13:

To Mom:
Hello mom, so i finally got the packages you sent and they were great, thanks a ton for the food and other stuff. In the letter you sent you said you were worried that i dont eat enough but i do. dont worry about me mom i am doing just fine, in fact i am at 160 lbs now so i have allready gained a little weight :) also i dont have the opportunity to take many pictures because missonaries cant look like tourest and that my camera would probably get stolen. Just know that i am in Guayaquil and that it is a huge city so i am surrounded by buildings all the time. Now for Christmas, we either get a phone call or skype so i will probably choose skype. it wont be on the 25 because we will be staying inside all day ( it isnt very safe during holidays lots of drinking in the streets) and so it will probably be on the 24th. i can only talk to family so dont invite any friends because i could get in trouble. also i dont have a microwave. trust me mom everything is a ok. you dont need to worry about me!
Con Amor ELder Myler

To Dad:
Hey dad thanks for the update it is good to hear that things are going well and that torrin is home, tell him I say hi from ecuador! It sounds like Ecuador and costa rica are fairly similar. very hot and almost no one has an air conditoner, no rain yet but im sure i will get my fill of rain eventually. I am haveing the same type of exsperince with spanish as torrin had. all my studies and practice is in spanish so i only know how to give lessons, my spanish has improved a lot so i will get the hang of it with time. the other gringo in my apartment got transfered so i dont have anyone to translate for me, which is good and bad (mostly good i will learn faster) but it will be just a little bit tougher right now, it good to hear you are staying active and i am proud to know your gonna run a marathon. it is good you have set a goal for your self, i have learned a lot about goal setting here and how important it is. I love you and am so glad for all you support Dad
